Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring today said that the Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab had cheated and defrauded women of the state by denying them the monthly cash assistance for four and a half years. He said, if the AAP was really sincere towards paying cash assistance to women, it must also pay the arrears for this period.

Reacting to the ‘Mukh Mantri Mawan Dhiyaan Satkar Yojana’, under which the AAP government has paid Rs 1500 and Rs 1000 to Scheduled Castes and general category women respectively, Warring pointed out, it was being done at the fag end of the government’s term. This government is left with just six more months and even if it pays for the full six months, it will just be peanuts as compared to what the women should have actually got, he said.

Warring pointed out against Rs 90,000 and Rs 60,000 that the SC and general category women should have got in five years, they will now be getting a meagre Rs 9000 and Rs 6000 respectively, which is just ten percent of the actual amount. The PCC president said that the scheme is only aimed at befooling people once again the way they were befooled before the elections.

“IF you think you can fool all the people all the time, you are badly mistaken”, he told the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. Warring drew comparison with the Congress ruled states like Telangana and Karnataka where women were paid the monthly cash assistance within a few months of forming the government.

He said, while in Telangana women are getting Rs 2500 every month directly into their bank accounts, in Karnataka they are receiving Rs 2000 each every month. “Congress did not wait for the term of the government to end in these states, but started just within a month”, Warring said, while pointing out how the AAP delayed it and was now trying to pay peanuts to women just ahead of next elections.

Similarly, he announced that once the Congress forms the government in Punjab in 2027, it will start paying women on the similar pattern as in Telangana and Karnataka.
