Deputy Commissioner Reasi Kumar Abhishek today inaugurated the annual Baba Aghar Jitto Mela at village Aghar Jitto. The festival draws large gatherings of devotees, visitors and local residents, making it an important occasion for social and cultural unity.
A major attraction was the exhibition of departmental stalls set up by government departments including Health, Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry and other allied sectors. The stalls showcased Centrally Sponsored Schemes and UT Government welfare initiatives aimed at public welfare, rural development and socio-economic upliftment, providing visitors with detailed information on schemes and services and helping them avail benefits.
The Deputy Commissioner inspected the stalls and interacted with officials to review information dissemination and public outreach. He called for effective awareness generation so that eligible beneficiaries can fully avail government schemes.
The Deputy Commissioner distributed letters of appreciation and authorisation to progressive farmers and orchardists in recognition of their contribution to the development of the horticulture sector. Students and local artists from Palthyar Nehru Youth Club Garhi presented a cultural programme featuring traditional items and a play depicting the life and sacrifices of Baba Jitto, which the audience widely appreciated.
On the concluding day, a traditional Indian-style wrestling competition (Dangal) will be organised, featuring renowned wrestlers from Jammu and Kashmir and adjoining states. Among those present were ADDC Krishan Lal, ADC Rakesh Kumar, SDM Katra, BDO Katra and other district officers.
