In a major breakthrough against organised crime and gangster networks amidst the ongoing drive to make Punjab a safe and secure state as per directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) Amritsar and Counter Intelligence (CI) Jalandhar, in coordination with a Central Agency, have busted a gangster module linked to foreign-based handlers with the arrest of its three operatives and recovered three foreign-made sophisticated pistols along with ammunition from their possession, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Sunday.

Those arrested have been identified as Anmol Singh alias Mohla, a resident of Wadda Thetharke in Batala, Jagroop Singh alias Roopa, a resident of Shahpur Jajan in Batala and Mohit Kumar alias Joban, a resident of Kawariyan Wali Puli at Gate Hakiman in Amritsar.

The development came close on the heels of arrest of one individual after recovering 26 sophisticated firearms including one AK-47 rifle and 25 pistols from his possession. DGP Gaurav Yadav said that preliminary investigation has revealed that the arrested accused were acting on the directions of foreign-based gangsters, who are involved in gang wars, extortion, and other disruptive activities in Punjab.

On their directions, accused have been transporting consignments of weapons and carrying out criminal acts, he said. The DGP said that further investigations are focused on tracing the entire network, identifying associates, uncovering previous criminal activities, and dismantling the organised crime syndicate operating at the behest of foreign-based handlers.

Sharing operational details, AIG SSOC Amritsar Sukhminder Singh Mann said that in an intelligence led operation, police teams have arrested Anmol alias Mohla, Jagroop alias Roopa and Mohit alias Joban and recovered three foreign-made sophisticated pistols along with ammunition from their possession.

The AIG said that probe also brought to light that the arrested accused Anmol and Mohit are also linked to a murder case registered at Commissionerate Police Amritsar in September 2025 and an attempt to murder case registered at Batala in June 2026.

Apart from this, Anmol and his associates were assigned similar tasks which have been averted, he added. In this regard, a case FIR No. 40 dated 20.06.2026 under section 25 of the Arms Act and sections 111 and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been registered at Police Station SSOC Amritsar.
