On the occasion of International Yoga Day, the district-level celebration was held today in Sangrur in an enthusiastic atmosphere. The event was organized by the Ministry of AYUSH and the Government of Punjab under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Bhagwant Singh Mann, with guidance from Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh and supervision of Director Ayurveda Dr. Raman Khanna.
The district administration, under the able leadership of Deputy Commissioner Mrs. Poonamdeep Kaur and guidance of District Ayurvedic and Unani Officer Dr. Seema Jain, organized this district-level event with the main objective of spreading awareness about yoga among the public and making it an integral part of daily life. This year’s global theme was “Yoga for Healthy Ageing”, under which experts emphasized the importance of yoga in elderly health care, mental peace, and disease prevention.
Chief Guest, MLA Mrs. Narinder Kaur Bharaj, stated that yoga is not just a physical exercise but a complete lifestyle that provides physical fitness as well as mental balance and inner peace. She added that in today’s fast-paced and stressful life, yoga serves as a highly beneficial natural therapy.
Chairman Infotech Dr. Guninderjeet Singh Jwandha, who presided over the event, said that yoga is the need of the hour. Regular yoga practice reduces physical ailments and strengthens mental well-being. He appealed to everyone to make yoga a part of their daily routine. District Planning Board Chairman Shri Gurmel Singh Gharachon also attended the event as a special guest.
Senior Physician Dr. Kulwinder Sharma expressed gratitude and said that India’s ancient yoga tradition is now being recognized worldwide. He added that yoga is one of the most effective scientific methods for balanced human development, and the Punjab Government is making dedicated efforts to promote it among the public.
Nodal Officer Dr. Lalit Kansal stated that yoga is a science of balance between mind and body. Regular practice reduces stress, enhances immunity, and brings positivity into life.It is noteworthy that the large participation of people is evidence of the continuously growing awareness about yoga in society.
The stage was efficiently conducted by State Awardee Shri Harpreet Singh Bhandari, who successfully coordinated between administrative officials, guests, and yoga practitioners, ensuring the smooth conduct of the event. The event was attended by Superintendent Ayurveda Shri Rajinder Singh, Senior Assistant Smt. Nivedita Sharma, Harpreet Kaur, Shagnadeep Singh Chauhan, Dr. Aman Bharti, Dr. Raman Kumar, Dr. Divya, Dr. Gurpreet Singh, Dr. Renu Goswami, Dr. Meenu Vahi, Dr. Shailendra, Dr. Asif Ali, Shri Sikandar Sharma, Shri Jeevan Kumar, Shri Amit Kansal, Shri Yogesh Sharma, Shri Pushpdeep, Shri Jagtar Singh, Smt. Swinderjeet Kaur, and Smt. Esha Goyal, along with other officials.
During the event, yoga asanas, pranayama, and meditation sessions were conducted in which a large number of yoga trainers, students, and general public participated. On behalf of the NIMA organization, Dr. Pawan Aggarwal, former District Ayurvedic and Unani Officer Dr. Ravikant Madan, State Pensioners’ leader Shri Raj Kumar Arora, Life Guard Group’s Dr. Sukhwinder Singh, Shri Deepak Kumar Deputy District Education Officer, District Sports Officer Shri Navdeep Singh, District Coordinator CM’s Yogashala Lovepreet Singh, District Treasury Officer Smt. Balwinder Kaur Sohi, along with a large number of citizens, actively participated in the district-level International Yoga Day celebrations.
A public appeal was made from the stage that yoga should not be considered just a one-day activity, but should be made a part of daily life to build a healthy and balanced society.
