A meeting of the District-Level Narco Coordination Committee (NCORD) was held today at Ramban under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Alyas Khan to review ongoing anti-narcotics measures and strengthen coordinated efforts to curb drug abuse across the district under the Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan.
SSP Arun Gupta, ADC Varunjeet Singh Charak, Chief Medical Officer Kamal Zadu, CHO, Tehsildar, DSWO, BDO, Drug Control Officer and officers from various enforcement and line departments attended the meeting. Sub-Divisional Magistrates, Tehsildars and other concerned officers participated through virtual mode.
Reviewing the implementation of directions issued in the previous meeting, the Deputy Commissioner directed the Drug Inspector to take strict action in close coordination with the concerned Tehsildars and Police Department, besides intensifying enforcement drives.
He directed the SDMs, Tehsildars and Excise Department to maintain strict vigil on illegal poppy and cannabis cultivation and take immediate action wherever such cultivation is detected. He called for innovative interventions and focused analysis to understand the root causes leading youth towards substance abuse and ensure strict surveillance in vulnerable areas.
Reviewing the functioning of the Addiction Treatment Facility (ATF) at District Hospital Ramban, the DC directed the Chief Medical Officer to ensure proper functioning of the IPD facility and provide quality medical care, counselling and follow-up support for effective rehabilitation and prevention of relapse.
The Deputy Commissioner reviewed the progress achieved by various departments under the ongoing 100-day Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir campaign and directed officers to implement all scheduled activities in a time-bound manner. He directed the ACD to strengthen the functioning of Panchayat Level Monitoring Committees and Panchayat-level Mahila Samitis across the district.
The DC directed the DSWO to submit details of events conducted by the Nodal Officers in their allotted Panchayats under the campaign. All concerned officers were instructed to intensify awareness under the ‘Nasha Mukt Abhiyan’ through IEC activities in both government and private institutions.
The Excise Department was directed to prepare a comprehensive awareness plan to educate the public about the ill effects of drug abuse. The Deputy Commissioner directed the concerned officers to ensure capacity building of resource persons from schools at Panchayat level, GHSSs, GHSs, GDCs, GPC Ramban, Anganwadi workers and members of Self Help Groups for generating mass awareness.
The ACD and DSWO were directed to make youth clubs active and involve their services in the Nasha Mukt Abhiyan. The SSP suggested various measures to make society drug-free and emphasised the need for coordinated efforts among all departments.
