A review meeting was convened under the chairmanship of Sh. Nishant Kumar Yadav, Deputy Commissioner, Chandigarh, to assess the ongoing progress of Census training activities being conducted across the district. The meeting was attended by all ten Charge Officers, along with key stakeholders from the concerned departments, who are directly involved in the planning and execution of Census-related operations.
The primary objective of the meeting was to evaluate the status of training programmes, identify any gaps or challenges, and ensure timely and effective implementation of all preparatory activities related to the Census. During the meeting, it was apprised to the Chair that the training sessions for supervisors and enumerators are being conducted in a smooth and systematic manner as per the prescribed schedule.
The officers informed that the training modules are being delivered effectively and the majority of the participants are actively engaging with the content. However, it was also reported that 59 trainees remained absent from the sessions. Taking serious note of this lapse, the Deputy Commissioner expressed concern over the lack of attendance and emphasized the importance of full participation in such critical training programmes.
He directed the Education Department to immediately issue show-cause notices to all 59 defaulters and to initiate appropriate disciplinary proceedings against them, in accordance with the relevant rules, to ensure accountability and prevent recurrence of such instances. In order to further strengthen the process and enhance participation in self-enumeration, the Deputy Commissioner suggested that dedicated camps be organized in all government offices under the Chandigarh Administration.
He stressed that these camps should be properly coordinated and facilitated so that employees can conveniently complete their self-enumeration within the stipulated timeframe. Additionally, he urged all departments to actively motivate and guide their staff in this regard, highlighting the importance of their role in setting an example for the general public.
The Deputy Commissioner also underscored the need for launching a robust and comprehensive Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) campaign to create widespread awareness about the Census and the benefits of self-enumeration. He recommended leveraging multiple communication channels, including social media platforms, cinema halls, and print media, to ensure maximum outreach and public engagement.
He further advised that innovative and targeted communication strategies should be adopted to reach diverse sections of society, thereby encouraging greater participation and ensuring the overall success of the Census exercise.
