The Senate & Syndicate of the Guru Nanak Dev University approved the Budget Estimates of 773 crore 17 lac and 42 thousand for the year 2026-27. University would spend 46.50 percent amount on further improvement in Teaching, Allied Teaching, Research and Education.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Karamjeet Singh presided over both the Syndicate and Senate meetings which were held here today in the Syndicate and Senate hall of the University. Prof. K.S. Chahal, Registrar presented the agenda in both the meetings.
The members congratulated Prof. Karamjeet Singh and University Administration for presenting a balanced budget. Prof. H.S. Saini, Dean Academic Affairs, large number of Syndicate and Senate members were present in the meetings.
During the ensuing financial year 2025-26, the University has spent Rs. 4 crores 16 lac 28 thousands to help the economically backward and intelligent students in the form of fee concessions. The fee claim of Rs. 22 Crore 24 Lac & 69 thousand of 2377 SC students under post matric scholarships for SC students has been sent to Government of Punjab and online claim for 35 students under National Scholarship scheme has also been sent to the Government.
All efforts were made by the University to help the financially backward students so that they could achieve higher education and contribute their share in the progress of the nation. During this financial year, University would spend 46.50 per cent of the total budget on Teaching, Allied Teaching, Research and Education.
Similarly, 11.36 percent would be spent on non-teaching departments, 10.53 percent on general administration, 2.97 percent on the conduct of examinations, 6.80 percent on miscellaneous (teaching, non-teaching and others) and 6.05 percent would be spent on construction purposes.
Total 15.79 percent of the budget will be for pension and other retirement benefits. Registrar Prof. K. S. Chahal stated that, with the special initiatives and tireless efforts of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Karamjit Singh, financial assistance is being received from donors and well-wishers both in India and abroad to further encourage research work.
In the university budget, a provision has been made to provide 200 research scholars with a fixed scholarship of ₹8,000 per month. During the year 2025, a total of 624 students from different departments of the university were successfully placed in reputed companies in India and abroad after completing their education.
The Vice-Chancellor also stated that the students of the university and its colleges are achieving remarkable success in the field of sports as well. Players from the university have won 4 gold medals and 3 silver medals at the international level in shooting.
In addition, university students performed excellently in All India Inter-University competitions, Khelo India, and various national-level sports events, securing overall first, second, and third positions. He further mentioned that the university’s students achieved the second runner-up position in the North Zone Inter-University Youth Festival by performing exceptionally in various competitions.
He also informed that keeping in view the increasing use of Artificial Intelligence in human life, the Vice-Chancellor stated that the university organized a world-level conference on the role of Artificial Intelligence in the fields of Punjab, Punjabi, and Punjabi culture. Along with this, the university is also developing an AI-based software for teaching the Punjabi language.
He also shared information about the grants released to the university by various grant and funding agencies of the Government of India during 2025–26 under different projects and schemes. The members present at the meeting congratulated Vice-Chancellor Prof. Karamjit Singh and the university community for the university’s achievements and for presenting a well-organized budget.
The Vice-Chancellor assured the members that continuous efforts will be made to take the university to even greater heights.
