The consistent emphasis on sports development and excellence by Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Karamjeet Singh has further strengthened Guru Nanak Dev University as one of the country’s leading institutions in sports. With sustained efforts towards creating world-class sports infrastructure, scientific training facilities, and a strong support system for athletes, the University continues to produce sportspersons who are making their mark at prestigious international platforms.

In recognition of these remarkable achievements, Prof. (Dr.) Karamjeet Singh hosted a High Tea in honour of the University’s international medal-winning sportspersons at the Vice-Chancellor’s Office today. Addressing the gathering, the Vice-Chancellor congratulated the players for their outstanding performances at various international competitions and appreciated their discipline, dedication, and relentless hard work in bringing laurels to both the University and the nation. 

He expressed immense pride over the players’ success in securing medals at prestigious events, including the Asian Shooting Championships and ISSF World Cup competitions. Prof. Karamjeet Singh observed that the University’s consistent success in sports reflects a healthy sporting ecosystem built on quality coaching, institutional support, and the determination of athletes to excel at the highest level. 

He said GNDU remains committed to providing every possible opportunity and support to young sportspersons so that they can compete confidently on global platforms. The Vice-Chancellor also congratulated the three University shooters who have been selected to represent India at the Asian Games, scheduled to be held in Japan in October 2026.

He described their selection as a moment of immense pride for the University and expressed confidence that they would deliver commendable performances and bring glory to the nation. Encouraging the players to continue their pursuit of excellence, Prof. Karamjeet Singh said that perseverance, focus, and discipline remain the defining qualities of successful athletes. 

He extended his blessings and best wishes to the players for future competitions and expressed hope that they would continue winning medals and further enhance the University’s sporting legacy. Among those present on the occasion were Dr. H.S. Saini, Dean Academic Affairs; Dr. K.S. Chahal, Registrar; Dr. Kanwar Mandeep Singh, Director Sports; Dr. Baljinder Singh Bal, Head, Physical Education; Mr. Parveen Puri, Director PR and Ms. Rajwinder Kaur, Shooting Coach. They also congratulated the players on their exceptional achievements and conveyed their best wishes for future international events.

The international sportspersons expressed gratitude to the University administration for its constant encouragement, advanced sports facilities, and unwavering support, which, they said, have played a pivotal role in their success at the international level. The felicitation ceremony was held for University’s National and international shooting players, including Ashi Chouksey and Aishwarya Pratap Singh Tomar (gold medals at the 16th Asian Shooting Championship in Kazakhstan and earned selection for the Asian Games 2026), Maneesha Keer (silver medal in the Trap Asian Shooting Championship and also booked her place for the Asian Games), Abhinav Shaw (silver medal at the Asian Games, Jakarta, and a gold medal at the World Cup in Germany, where he also created a new world record in the 10-metre rifle event), Adriyan Karmakar (gold at the Asian Championship in New Delhi, setting a new world record in the 3-position 50-metre event), Sift Kaur (gold at the 16th Asian Shooting Championship in Kazakhstan, along with gold and silver medals at the Asian Championship in New Delhi), Harmehar Lally (bronze at the ISSF World Cup in Morocco (Skeet), while Abhay Singh Sekhon (bronze at the Asian Shooting Championship in Kazakhstan). Among others, Ramita Jindal delivered a notable performance by finishing among the top five at the Olympics and also represented at the World Cup, while Harsh Gupta claimed two gold medals at the Asian Championship, New Delhi, and the 16th Asian Shooting Championship, Kazakhstan. Prikshit Brar also represented the University at the Asian Championship in New Delhi, displaying the depth of talent nurtured at GNDU.
