In accordance with the directions of the Punjab Government, the District Administration, Amritsar, is continuing a special plantation drive to plant 6.50 lakh saplings across the district in commemoration of the 650th Prakash Purb of Sri Guru Ravidas Ji.
Deputy Commissioner Shri Dalwinderjit Singh chaired a meeting with officers of various departments to review the progress of the campaign and issued necessary directions for its effective implementation.Addressing the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner said that Sri Guru Ravidas Ji dedicated his life to spreading the message of equality, selfless service and love for nature.
He said that the district administration has undertaken the target of planting 6.50 lakh saplings across the district as a tribute to the teachings of the revered Guru and to promote environmental conservation.He informed that the saplings are being planted at village common lands, shamlat lands, urban parks, government and private schools and colleges, government offices, hospitals, roadsides, canal banks and other public places across the district. He directed all departments to work in close coordination to achieve their assigned targets within the stipulated timeframe and ensure proper care and maintenance of the planted saplings.
The Deputy Commissioner emphasized that the objective of the campaign is not merely to plant saplings but also to ensure their survival and healthy growth into mature trees. He said that every department or institution entrusted with saplings will also be responsible for their protection, maintenance and survival.
Appealing to school students, Gram Panchayats, social organisations, clubs and the general public, the Deputy Commissioner urged everyone to actively participate in this environmental initiative. He called upon every citizen to plant at least one sapling and take responsibility for its care, adding that such an effort would be a true tribute to Sri Guru Ravidas Ji while contributing to a cleaner, greener and healthier environment for future generations.
On the occasion, District Forest Officer Shri Rajesh Kumar informed that the Forest Department is providing saplings free of cost to all government departments and social organisations for the campaign. He appealed to people from all walks of life to become partners in this mass plantation drive and contribute towards environmental protection.
The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner (Rural Development) Shri Surinder Singh, District Social Security Officer Shri Aseesinder Singh, Assistant Director Horticulture S. Jatinder Singh Sandhu, Deputy Director Animal Husbandry Dr. Sandeep Dhawan, Nodal In-charge Shri Dharminder Singh, Deputy Director CEO S. Teerathpal Singh, Employment Officer Shri Mukesh Sarangal, District Tourism Officer Shri Sukhman Singh, besides officers of various departments and representatives of social organisations.
