Punjab Deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal today directed deputy commissioners to perform or perish saying they must reduce delays in implementation of government schemes, ensure timely delivery of services and check corruption in their districts. He also directed them to implement the new mining policy strictly and enjoined them to respond to people’s grievances including web-complaints forwarded to them from his office immediately.Addressing a meeting of deputy commissioners held here at Punjab Bhawan, Mr. Badal directed Deputy Commissioner to ensure zero corruption in the government offices by getting feedback from the people. He said every deputy commissioner must forward the feedback, especially on the registries done in their areas, to their pisional commissioners and the chief secretary on a daily basis. The Deputy CM also directed the Commissioners and the chief secretary to check the reports submitted by the DC’s regularly to stamp out corruption.

Badal also disclosed in the meeting that he was getting a number of complaints and grievances through email and web portal feedback. He issued instructions to the deputy commissioners to take immediate action on all the grievances and complaints being forwarded to them besides giving a feedback regarding their current status to his office.Issuing instructions to reduce sand prices as per the new mining policy immediately, the Deputy CM said that deputy commissioners must keep a vigil on sand mining as well as its distribution through Punjab Mandi Board to ensure sand was provided to customers in a timely manner at reasonable prices. Mr. Badal asked the deputy commissioners to immediately report to chief secretary whenever and wherever sand prices crossed the price set by them.Reviewing the drug de-addiction program, Deputy CM asked the deputy commissioners to coordinate with district police in charges to create congenial atmosphere for de-addicted persons to bring them back to normal life. He also took feedback regarding infrastructure and other requirements for the successful implementation of drug de-addiction program. He asked the deputy commissioners to put their maximum efforts to save the next generation and assured that state would fulfill all the requirements needed to make the drug de-addiction program a success.

Reviewing the implementation of Social welfare schemes, Mr. Badal directed the secretary, Food Supplies to work on computerisation of distribution of wheat and pulses under Atta-Dal scheme to ensure that wheat and pulses reached the consumer in time. He also directed the concerned secretaries and deputy commissioners to ensure that the Atta-Dal scheme, Shagun scheme, Pension scheme and other social security schemes were implemented efficiently  Reviewing the acquisition of land under National Highways Act, Deputy Chief Minister said that the centre had sanctioned 4 and 6 lane National Highway projects worth Rs 10000 crores for Punjab. He said that these highways would cross through almost all the cities and districts of state and directed deputy commissioners to ensure timely land acquisition for the same by October 15.In today’s meeting the other issues which were discussed in-depth were regularisation of plots and colonies in the state, rationalisation of collector rates, pending Suvidha Centres applications and RTS applications beyond RTS deadline, relief measures on account of recent rains, water logging and floods in State. Besides this,  progress of solid waste management projects, acquisition of land for STP’s and computerisation of land records and implementation of e-stamping were also discussed with the deputy commissioners. Prominent amongst others present in the meeting included Revenue & Public Relations Minister Mr. Bikram Singh Majithia, Media Advisor to Deputy Chief Minister Jangveer Singh, Chief Secretary Sarvesh Kaushal, Financial Commissioner Revenue N.S Kang,   Principal Secretary to CM S.K.Sandhu, Principal Secretary Governance Reforms C. Roul, Principal Secretary to Deputy Chief Minister P.S Aulja, Principal Secretary Health Vinni Mahajan, and Deputy Commissioners of all districts.
