Deputy Commissioner Barnala Mr T Benith and SSP Mr Sarfaraz Aalam today visited various places in the district to check burning of paddy stubble. Along with teams deputed to check paddy stubble burning, the DC and SSP visited areas of Bhadaur, Sehna and Tapa.

They interacted with farmers who had been making good use of crop residue management machineries given to them on subsidy. Punjab government has given machines on subsidy to enable farmers for in situ and ex situ management of stubble instead of burning it.

Deputy Commissioner Mr T Benith said that strict action will be taken against those who do not abide by the strictures of government to not burn paddy stubble. He appreciated the efforts of farmers who are not burning stubble and instead making bales out of it and selling it ahead.

Terming it as making money out of waste, Deputy Commissioner said that more such progressive farmers should step in so that stubble can be managed. He added that red entry is being made into the revenue records of the farmers whose fields are found having being burnt.

SSP Mr Sarfaraz Aalam directed the police personnel to ensure that proper action was taken against the offenders. He added strict be taken against the habitual offenders.
