Deputy Commissioner Barnala Mr T Benith visited Barnala, Maur Nabha, jodhpur, Sekha, Sanghera, Jhaloor and Karamgarh as a part of ongoing efforts of the administration to ensure that paddy stubble is it burnt as farm residue at any place in the district. The Deputy Commissioner called upon the farmers to ensure that that instead of burning the stubble they should opt for in situ or ex situ management.
He added that the government has provided them farm machinery on subsidy to manage the stubble. Already around 90 balers are working in the district colleting paddy stubble, making its bundles and storing the same at dump sites.
These also include 10 big balers from other districts that are instrumental in managing paddy in almost 300 to 400 acres of area per day for each baler. He informed that currently there are 16 different dump sites for paddy storage.
Appreciating the efforts of five farmers from village Gehal, who are running balers and storing stubble of other farmers too in their farms, Mr Benith added that more such farmers should come forward. He added that currently there are dumping sites at Chananwal, Handiaya, Tajoke, Rureke Khurd, Harigarh, Khuddi Kalan, Khuddi Kalan, Dhaula, Gill Kothe (Sehna), Wajidke Kalan, Gehal, Bhaini Jassa, Naiwala Road, Patti Sekhwan, Joga in Mansa and Panjgrain in Sangrur.
Deputy Commissioner appreciated the efforts of farmers who are not burning paddy. He added that such farmers are a source of inspiration for others an an example to emulate. He added that
Meanwhile, the teams today visited areas of Pakho Kanchian, Farwahi, Tapa, Bhotna, Gangohar, Cheema, Dhanaula, Dhilwan etc. The teams are monitoring fields in the district keeping an eye on the farmers who burn the paddy stubble. Police and civil administration teams are working together in villages.
