Civil surgeon Dr Sangeeta Jain directed government doctors in the district to prescribe only generic medicines. She was addressing a review meeting of Senior Health officials here today. She said that there is no dearth of essential and emergency medicines in government health institutes across the district, therefore no patient should be asked to buy medicines from private chemist shops.

She said that if there is a need to buy medicines from the private shop, it is the duty of the In-charge of the institute to buy such medicines for the patient. Dr Jain said that as per the Punjab government scheme, patients should be given free medicines and all medicines under the standard list must be available at the Pharmacy in the hospital.

Dr. Jain directed that there must be adequate arrangement for Medical oxygen and power supply in every institute and regular staff should be deputed to run these systems. The Civil Surgeon said that there are free investigation and treatment services for pregnant women.

She instructed that the ultrasound tests of pregnant women should be conducted in government hospitals and empanelled private centres. She also reviewed progress of Aam Aadmi Clinics and various national and state health programs and schemes and said that all these programs should be implemented properly and effectively.

District Immunisation officer Dr. Girish Dogra, District Family Welfare Officer Dr. Tamanna and all the senior medical officers were present in the meeting.
