Panic gripped in Saffron town Pampore in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district when suspected militants attacked a Border Security Force convoy injuring 9 security personnel from two battalions including an Assistant Commandant near Kadalbal on Srinagar-Jammu highway on Monday night. Police sources told CNS that sixes vehicles carrying BSF personnel from 192 and 151 battalions were on way from Phalgam to Srinagar when one of their  Swaraj Mazda (FNWB-23A-1558) vehicle came under militant fire near Kadalbal creating chaos and confusion among BSF personnel as well as local population.

These men had gone to Amarnath Cave and where returning to Srinagar. The militants struck from two sides and showered scores of bullets on the Swaraj Mazdah injuring at least 9 security personnel. The injured included an Assistant Commandant Bhushan Lal of 192 battalion. Two personnel from 151 Battalion also sustained injuries,” a police official told CNS adding that all the injured were rushed to Army's 92 Base Hospital at headquarters of 15 Corps..The police official said that soon after the attack the suspected militants managed to escape while police, Army, SOG, CRPF and BSF officials rushed to spot to assess the situation. Government forces cordoned off the area and conducted door to door searches, however, no one was arrested,” the official said.

Police identified the injured as Assistant Commandant Bhushan Lal, Head Constable Manoj Kumar, Amar Pal, Constable Sarav Kumar, Vijay Chitra, Mukhtulla, Bhuraj Bogandar Ram, Daresh Chandar and Yougandar Yadav.Eyewitnesses told CNS that on Tuesday, government forces created check-points on Srinagar-Jammu highway and conduct searches. Police and SOG personnel sealed Tulabagh spot on Pampore-Khrew road while CRPF, Army personnel from 50 RR erected check point near Galandar Pampore where passengers from vehicles were thoroughly frisked.

Meanwhile, militant outfit Hizbul Mujhadeen while claiming the responsibility of the attack told CNS that the attack was carried out in wake of Prime Minister of India’s visit to the Jammu and Kashmir. The caller who identified himself as the Operational Spokesperson of HM, Baleeg-u-Din said that the Highway squad of the outfit inflict heavy damage on Indian security personnel and they returned safely after carrying out the attack. “Whenever, any Prime Minister of India will visit our land for inaugurating railways, bridges and dams, our Mujhaideen will always welcome him with bullets,” he said.
