67th Independence Day was celebrated with traditional gaiety and fervour at S. K. Stadium Bandipora today. The Minister for Higher Education Mr. Mohammad Akbar Lone hoisted the National Flag and took salute on the march past presented by the contingents of JKP, IRP CRPF, NCC and school children.MLA Bandipora Nizamudin Bhat, DDC Bandipora M Y Zargar, Ex Legislators, Senior Officers and prominent citizens attended besides, a large number of people. 

Highlighting significance of Independence Day, the minister said that the best way of commemorating the freedom fighters of the nation is to ensure peace and communal harmony in the State for sustainable development. He said that Gandhiji and other national leaders strived hard for Independence of the nation and in the state Sher-i-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah along with his colleagues struggled hard to free the people from autocratic rule. He said that the government led by Omar Abdullah would not allow certain vested interests to disturb peace in the State. 

Enlisting the major achievements of the present government, the Minister said that crores of rupees are being incurred on the execution of various development projects to strengthen the basic infrastructure in Health, Education, PHE, Power and other Sectors.On the occasion, variety Cultural programmes were presented by the school children. Later, the Minister distributed prizes among meritorious participants and those who have performed remarkable services in deferent fields.

Similarly functions were held at Sonawari and Gurez Tehsil headquarters.

At Guraz: pisional Magistrate, Gurez, Mr. Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din unfurled the national flag and took salute at the march past presented by the contingents of J&K Police and students of various Educational Institutions at Dawar Gurez 

Cultural programmes were also presented and prizes were distributed among the participants. The Independence Day was celebrated with traditional fervor and enthusiasm.
