SSP Dr Sandeep Garg while launching a safe driving campaign during foggy days appealed to people  to avoid driving on foggy days. Distributing reflectors to the drivers of commercial light and heavy vehicles at the parking lot of Godrej Appliances Mohali on Wednesday, the District Police Chief said that life is very precious as they are the only bread earners of their families, so besides abiding by the traffic rules  generally, they should particularly focus on the advisories issued on time to time for safe driving during foggy days.

A total of 1000 reflectors would be distributed to the drivers for safety purposes. He advised the truckers and other motorists to use low-beam headlights because high beams reflect off the moisture droplets in the fog, making it difficult to see. He also told them to pull their vehicles completely  off the road and keep  in a safe parking area if the fog is too dense. Similarly, Motorists should avoid stopping on the travelled portion of the road as they could become the first link in a chain-reaction collision of vehicles.

He advised drivers to refrain from sudden acceleration and passing other slow moving vehicles at high speed. Dr Garg also said to maintain sufficient following distance to brake safely. Similarly, reduce the distractions in your vehicle, for example--turn off your cell phones and music, since your full attention is required. Keep your windows and mirrors clean and use your defroster and wipers to maximize your vision.

He expressed thanks to the Godrej Appliances, General Manager Pritpal Singh, Location Incharge Murgesh Gandhi from extending help to the district police in arranging the safety and precautionary measures for the truckers and tempos to prevent accidents on foggy days.

SP (Traffic and Industrial Security) H S Mann stressed  upon the need of extra precautionary measures to avoid accidents during the fog and asked the drivers to move slowly in case of dense fog by switching on blinkers. He also appealed to pull the vehicle off to the road in case of any breakdown and keep the blinkers on to avoid any road accident.
