Army at Rafiabad area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district hosted an iftaar party to increase homogeneity between the army and the AwamA senior army official in a statement issued to GNS said that army in Rafiabad has gone out of its way during the Ramzan month to increase homogeneity between the Army and the Awam. “Eid-ul-Fitr is the first day of the Islamic month of Shawwal.  It marks the end of Ramadan, which is a month of fasting and prayer.  Many Muslims attend communal prayers, listen to a Khutba (Sermon) and give zakat-al-fitr (charity in the form of food) during Eid-ul-Fitr”, the official said.To celebrate the spirit of the holy month of Ramzan, the Army set up stalls of Sharbat and Khajoor at Jamia Masjids for ‘Iftaar’ before the Maghrib prayers for the locals in villages all over the Rafiabad Area, he said.

During the past week, the 32 RR Unit has impressively set up these stalls at Nadihal, Hadipora, Panzala, Khamoh, Kangroosa, Harduchanam, Dangiwacha, Watergam and Supernahama Jamia Masjids wherein the troops greeted the locals and provided sweet meats and Sharbat to break their fast in the traditional Islamic way, the official said.  The official while quoting a local Mohd Ashraf of Kangroosa as having said that army Officers interacted with the local participants; they asked the locals to pray for the prevalence of peace in the valley and to progress by leaps and bounds. The locals while welcoming the gesture said, “The gesture by the Army is a proof of the good relations and trust which exists between the locals and the Army”. “The Army in Rafiabad has always come forth in involving themselves in our traditions”, said Ab Rasid Ganai, Sarpanch of Dangiwacha.  The atmosphere at the Masjids during this act speaks volumes about the bonhomie between the Army and the locals”, the official said.
