The issue of pay disparity of Punjab Vets with their counterparts in health department will be resolved shortly in a positive manner. This was announced by Punjab Animal Husbandry,  Fisheries and dairy development Minister, Mr Gurmeet Singh Khuddian after inauguration of State level seminar on 'Promoting Diversity,  Equity and Inclusiveness in the Veterinary Profession' , organised by Punjab State Veterinary Council in collaboration with Animal Husbandry Department at Chandigarh University,  Gharuan near here today.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Khuddian reiterated the commitment of Bhagwant Mann Government to bring the State to the pinnacle of progress and glory which had eluded it due to wrong policies, approach and thought process of erstwhile governments. He said livestock have remained part and parcel of the life of rural people since time immemorial, hence by taking up vocations of cattle rearing, goatery, piggery and Fisheries in a scientific way, the youth of State could earn their livelihood and contribute to economy and progress of  Punjab. 

He added that as land holdings had decreased and agrarian production had reached its plateau, the livestock sector holds great promise for the farmers. He appreciated the dedication and services rendered  by Vets to protect livestock during the recent floods and during the outbreak of Lumpy Skin Disease in cattle. 

Earlier, Mr Khuddian inaugurated the new initiative of Punjab State Veterinary Council  to register Veterinary graduates online by pressing the button of the online portal. He also unveiled a booklet of Punjab State Veterinary Council Rules 1997 which were made under the Indian Veterinary Council act, 1994.

Mr Khuddian while paying  tributes to the great revolutionary Shaheed Bhagat Singh on his birth anniversary stated that he was a youth icon and a leading light for the Punjab Government to govern the state with honesty and transparency.  The speakers at the technical session were Dr Lakshmi Srinivasan from Hyderabad, Dr Swaran Singh Randhawa from Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University and Dr Kallahalli Umesh from Bangaluru.

Dr Sangeeta Toor, Director Animal Husbandry Punjab in her address highlighted the achievements of the department. Registrar, Punjab State Veterinary Council, Dr G S Bedi gave a presentation on the work done by the Veterinarians of Punjab in testing times of recent floods and explained the working of Council.

Prominent among others present on the occasion were Dr Bhupesh Kumar, Dr Sandeep Gupta, Dr T P Saini, Dr Rajinder Singh,  Dr Gurinder Singh Walia,  Dr Tejinder Singh and Dr Swaran Singh Randhawa all members of Council.
