Eye Donation Walkathon 2023: Walking Together to Bring Awareness to the Fight Against Blindness

During a press conference in Mohali, J.P. Eye Hospital, a branch of Dr. Agarwal's Eye Hospital, announced its campaign to raise awareness for eye donation. As part of the campaign, a 5-kilometer Walkathon will be held on Sunday, May 14th, with the aim of promoting eye donation and preventing blindness.

Participants from various walks of life and from all age groups of Tricity showed big enthusiasm to participate in this event for the noble cause.

During this press conference, Mr. Harsimran Singh Bal PPS, DSP Mohali was present on behalf of Dr. Sandeep Garg (IPS), SSP, Mohali, Ms. Sonia Mann (Punjabi actor and social activist), Ms. Gurvinder Kaur (Punjabi TV actor), and Mr. JS Jayara (Principal, Institute for Blind, Sector 26, Chd), presented their views about the importance of Eye Donation.

This Campaign is organized by J P Eye Hospital, A Unit of Dr. Agarwals Eye Hospital, India’s biggest corporate chain of eye hospitals; as its social responsibility towards our Nation.

Dr Jatinder Singh, Medical Director and Head of clinical services of Mohali Unit shared information about this campaign as well as the importance of eye donation.

 The start of this campaign is scheduled for Sunday, May 14, from 5:30 a.m. until 7:30 a.m. A walkathon campaign will be organized from J.P. Eye Hospital, 35 Phase 7 Mohali, to the Phase 7 Market parking area. 

Mr Gurpreet Singh Bhullar (IPS, IGP, Commissioner, Punjab Police) and Mrs Aashika Jain (IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Mohali), have consented to flag off the walkathon at 6.15 am on Sunday.SSP Mohali Dr Sandeep Garg IPS and Famous artists of the Punjabi film industry Mr. Jaswinder Bhalla and Ms.Gurvinder Kaur, will be joining this event on Sunday.

A brief about Dr Agarwals Healthcare Ltd and J P Eye Hospital:

Prof Dr. Amar Agarwal stressed the need for Eye Donation in reality. Many people pledge their eyes but in case of their demise, the main purpose of eye donation is defeated. So it is my humble request that

Every citizen of india must ensure the donation of their eyes after their death

Eye Hospital," a unit of  Dr. Agarwals Eye Hospital, is NABH accredited hospital and has been one of the most prominent, reliable, and trusted eye super-specialty hospitals in this Region since its inception in 1995.Founder of JP Eye Hospital, Dr Jatinder Singh Expressing his gratitude for this initiative, said, Our main motto is “Prevention and cure of Worldwide blindness”. 

On the Charitable front, we have conducted more than 850 free eye operation camps in the region of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, HP, Uttarakhand, and Madhya Pradesh in which more than 3 lakh people were examined free of cost, more than 150000 spectacles were distributed free of cost and more than 90000 free successful eye operations with lens implantations were conducted.

Out of the total blindness 10 million prevalent in India, 1.2 lacks are corneal blind who need corneal transplantations, and there were only 23000 eye donations in years 21-22 and 56000 in years 22-23. Out of these only 27000 eyes could be used purposefully and others were not worthy of transplantation. 

Our Dr. Agarwals Eye Bank contributed to the 3016 eye retrieval processes in 2022-2023 and a total of 1021 transplantations were done by Dr. Agarwals group of eye hospitals collectively all over India.
