As part of the ongoing nationwide Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and to mark the International Year of Millets 2023, the Department of Agriculture Production & Farmers’ Welfare organised a one-day awareness camp for women’s Self-Help Groups (SHGs) at panchayat Kanga in Block Gandhri.

The camp was attended by 50 women farmers and some prominent men farmers. Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer, Sudhir Manhas, Agriculture Extension Officer Jagdish Bali and Junior Agriculture Extension Officer, Munish Gupta educated the women, including local Sarpanch, Shakeela Begum, about the nutritional and economic importance of various types of millets and their cultivation.

They also informed them about the material support and technical guidance provided by the department. Each member of the women’s SHG was given 2 kg of millet (bajra) and 2kg of turmeric (haldi) on a 50% subsidy to motivate them to cultivate these crops.

The women appreciated the role of the Agriculture Department in uplifting the farming community, especially women.
