The Union Minister for Labour and Employment, Steel and Mines, Narendra Singh Tomar said that the Government is committed to work with the motto of “Shramev Jayate”. He said this while chairing a meeting with the Representatives of Central Trade Union Organisations (CTUOs) here today. He described today’s discussions as positive and meaningful. The meeting was attended by Minister of State for Labour and Employment Shri Vishnu Dev Sai, Secretary, Labour and Employment, senior officers from the ministry besides representatives of 12 CTUOs. Shri Tomar talked about the responsibility of the government to find a balance between interest of both labour and industry. He reiterated that amendments in labour legislation will be done keeping in mind the welfare of the working class. He said that the matters raised by the Trade Unions are serious and a lot needs to be done in this area. He emphasised the need for everyone’s active participation for effective enforcement of labour legislation. He asked the Trade unions to strengthen the ground level organisational structure so that maximum workforce can join these fora. He assured the trade unions of government’s resolve to continue the meaningful discussion on every labour issue. 

Participating in the open house discussion, the representatives of CTUOs welcomed the initiative by the new government to invite the tripartite discussion and assured the Government of their positive support for every initiative for the benefit of the labour. They demanded for the implementation of all those issues which were raised in the 10 point demand charter before the previous Government and on which a general consensus has been reached. They also emphasized on regularising the work of various tripartite committees constituted in the Ministry of Labour and Employment. More attention may be paid to the issues of minimum wages, contract workers, home based workers and construction workers. Minister of State for Labour and Employment Shri Vishnu Dev Sai in his address reiterated the Government‘s commitment for labour welfare. Expressing concern on issues raised by the Trade Unions, he emphasized on the need for continued discussion on these issues.
