District Level Committee of Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) today met here under the chairmanship of the District Magistrate Rajouri, Vikas Kundal. During the meeting, the District Magistrate sought a detailed report about the action taken on the agenda items discussed at the previous NCORD meeting wherein the concerned committee members briefed about the same.

The CEO Education informed that regular challans are issued to those found using drugs within the periphery of educational institutions. The Assistant Controller of Drugs informed that frequent market checks are being carried out to ensure that banned drugs are not sold to consumers.

He said the licence of one shop has also been suspended for violating the directions. The District Magistrate asked the NCORD members to step up their efforts to curb drug abuse in the district and make Rajouri a drug free district.

“There is a need to spread awareness through seminars, holding pledge-taking ceremonies, capacity building programs, organizing sports activities, and other activities under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan in the district to sensitize the target groups about the harmful effects of drugs on the mind and body,” he added.

The DM also asked the stakeholder departments to ensure meetings of sub-divisional level on regular intervals and holding of camps to educate the general public, especially the youth, about the harmful effects of drug abuse on health.

He said encouraging youth to participate in sports activities and spreading drug-addiction awareness among them can play an important role in eradicating the drug problem in the society.

SSP, Mohd Aslam, while speaking during the meeting, presented the resume of activities taken up in the district by the intending departments. He informed that special measures have been taken to keep a strict vigil on drug trafficking in the district.

He further informed that the cooperation of all stakeholders is required to curb this menace.
