Accredited by Indian Council of Agriculture & Research (ICAR); the School of Agriculture at Lovely Professional University (LPU) organized ‘Chrysanthemum Exhibition’.Bloomed in a range of diverse colours under shades of white, yellow, orange, lavender, purple, red, as well as bicolour flowers; Chrysanthemum exhibition attracted the diverse community of students and other onlookers at the campus.
On this occasion, agriculture students also had an opportunity to interact with Vice Chancellor Dr Preeti Bajaj, where they shared their thoughts and knowledge about the fascinating genre of the flower exhibited. VC Dr Bajaj applauded participating students for having deep knowledge and adoration for nature’s most pleasing objects in the form of Chrysanthemum.
This variegated floral exhibition also had competition open to individualized groups. During the show, floral varieties under many sections and classes were displayed as flower arrangements, cut flowers, flower-ornaments, flowers grown in pots, and bouquets too. Judges for the competitions were renowned persons from the allied fields, including those from the floriculture & landscaping departments.
Floral ‘Rangoli’ and live photography of flowers were highlights of the show. Exhibited floral varieties included “Kirti, Arka Swarna and Ganga, Y2K, Appu, Sadbhavana, Birbal Sahni, Bindiya, Coimbatore, Ravi Kiran, Yellow Start, Chandrakand, Red Gold and more” in diverse colours and sizes.
All about preparation of fields; time of planting; spacing; propagation; terminal cuttings; nutrient, irrigation & weed managements; harvesting; and yield etc was also being briefed by the students to the onlookers.It is worth mentioning that LPU School of Agriculture guides students to grow pulses, organic & fibre crops, hybrid plants, fruit and vegetables in modern hygienic ways.
All students and staff members work tirelessly in raising wonderful crops, and also take help of poly houses. In the forthcoming years, the school is sure to set unique benchmarks for others to follow.Illustrative, with the scientific name “Dendranthema grandiflora”, Chrysanthemum is commonly known as “Guldaudi” in North India.
