To mark the celebration of 4th Crop Insurance / PMFBY Week, a function was held at Kisan Kendera Jammu, where Fasal Bima Yojna Awareness Van was flagged off by Additional Chief Secretary (ACS), Agriculture Production Department, Atal Dulloo.

Vice Chancellor SKUAST-J, J. P. Sharma and Director Agriculture Production & Farmers Welfare, Jammu ,Sh  K. K. Sharma were present on the occasion. The purpose of celebrating Crop Insurance Week is to conduct massive awareness campaign and ensure maximum enrolment of the farmers under the Insurance scheme during Rabi- 2022-23 from 1st to 6th of Dec 2022.

The van campaign is being organized by IFFCO TOKIO Insurance Company in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Jammu under Pardhan Mantri Fasal Bhima Yojna (PMFBY) to aware the farmers about the PMFBY scheme.

Speaking on the occasion, Financial Commissioner (ACS) underlined that at present only four districts of UT are covered under Crop Insurance Scheme while efforts are being made to implement PM Fasal Bima Yojna in all the pending 16 districts of JK UT soon. 

He said that Department is striving hard to bring more and more farmers under Fasal Bima Yojna during the week w.e.f. 1st to 6th of December, 2022. ACS emphasized that the Fasal Bima Yojna will go a long way in mitigating the financial risk of the farmer suffering from the crop losses and aid in stabilizing the farmer’s income. 

This will also ensure flow of credit in the Agriculture Sector. Director Agriculture informed that this Van will cover all the panchayats of Jammu District to promote Pardhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojna (PMFBY) and its coverage among the farming community. 

Similar campaign is also being held in Samba and Udhampur Districts.  He said that till date 4.5 lakh farmers have been covered and 89000 farmers got benefitedunder the scheme. Further claims to the tune of 93 crores have been settled   under PMFBY till date.

He further informed that 15th December is the last date to opt for crop insurance and stressed on coverage of loanee (KCC holders) as well as non loanee farmers under the scheme. Besides others Officials from IFFCO TOKIO (PMFBY) Jammu, and Reliance Insurance Company were also present on the occasion.
