The Punjab Government in order to ensure public participation in the decision making mechanism of education department has decided to launch a toll free number and web portal, which would be active 24x7. It was disclosed by Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema, Education Minister while presiding over a state level meeting of the department at Government Model Senior Secondary School, Mohali today.He said that the government has taken this initiative to gauge the public feedback regarding the policies and activity of the education department. He said that the government would formulate its policies in accordance with the public demand. He said that this toll free number has been conceived in line with the toll free no already run by the police department He said that the department has decided to launch a new web portal for the Panchayats, where these public representative upload their queries, suggestion and complaints.

The minister further said that directions to all the department officials have been issued to have close coordination with the welfare department and to ensure the implementation of scholarship schemes at the grass root level. He said that directions have also been issued to collect the feedback of the implementation of welfare schemes from the beneficiaries.Dr. Cheema said that to ensure the timely disposal of the court cases a review committee has been constituted. He said that this committee would be useful for saving the precious time, energy and money and would ensure the welfare of the employees. 

The minister further said that the department would give priority to the academic activities and would promote quality research work. He asked the officials to give due importance to practical work while teaching subject like Math, science.Prominent among other who were present in the meeting included Mr. Inderbir Singh Bolaria, Chief Parliamentary Secretary, Mrs. Anjali Bhawra, Principal Secretary, Mr. Rahul Bhandari, Secretary, Mr. Gurdeep Singh, Special Secrtary, Dr. Kamal Garg, DPI (Secondary Education), Mrs. Darshan Kaur, D.P.I (Elementary Education), Mr. Sadu Singh Randhawa, Director (administration), Pankaj Sharma, Director, SCERT, all Deputy Directors, CEOs and DEOs.
