Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) general secretary Sharanjit Singh Dhillon today asked Punjab Congress president Partap Singh Bajwa to tell the people about his own performance before speaking about the performance of the SAD-BJP government led by Sardar Parkash Singh Badal.in a statement here, the senior akali leader said it was bizarre that a discredited and tainted leader like Partap Bajwa, who had been rejected by the people of Punjab, was trying to initiate a debate on performance with chief minister Sardar Parkash Singh Badal. “It would have been better if Mr Bajwa had told the people about his own performance in the Gurdaspur parliamentary constituency which he lost by a massive margin of more than one lakh votes recently. He should have also reflected on his own performance as PCC chief as he has achieved the dubious distinction of leading his party to an electoral rout with the Congress being able to win only three seats against eight seats won by the party in the last Lok Sabha elections”.
Sharanjit Dhillon said the PCC president had notched such a “performance” because of his arrogant attitude as well as inability to take the party rank and file with him. “Mr Bajwa has built up a reputation of deceitful behavior which includes even working against his own brother Fatehjang Bajwa when the latter was the party candidate in byelections to the Kahnuwan assembly seat”.Urging the PCC president to reform his ways before trying to judge others, the SAD leader said it was well known as to what business the PCC president’s family was famous for in the border belt of the State. “Your well reported role in the bitumen scam during your tenure as Public Works minister as well as reports of involvement in the Gujarat call girl racket are known to everyone in the State. Recently you have also been in the news for grabbing village common land in the periphery of Chandigarh. It is because of this dubious performance that you have lost the elections from Gurdaspur and also failed to deliver as PCC chief”, Mr Grewal added.
The SAD leader said the recent statements of Bajwa could be better understood in this background. “Knowing that his political career in nearing an end with the entire Congress rank and file demanding his ouster, Mr Bajwa has started issuing irrelevant and illogical statements to keep himself politically alive. You however will not succeed in this task, as people will see through the lies being invented by you. It will be better if you first explain why you failed to win the trust of your own constituents as well as your party and also the people of Punjab. Then only should your postulate on others”, Mr Dhillon added.
