The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Bandipora, Dr. Owais Ahmed on Monday flagged-off Shanti Yatra from NM Hr. Secondary School Bandipora to commemorate the 153rd Birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.Deputy Chief Education Officer Bandipora Mohammad Rafiq Parray, ZEO Bandipora, staff members and large gathering of students participated in the rally.

The rally passed through different localities of the town and culminated at High School Bagh.During the flag-off ceremony, DC interacted with the students and urged them to read the life history of Gandhiji and impressed upon them to inculcate his teaching of non-violence.

He said the Rally aims at generating awareness about the glorious history of the country and the leaders who fought selflessly for the nation while upholding the basic principles of life.Dr Owais expressed satisfaction over the enthusiastic participation of students with full zeal and vigour and said that this rally will help instill the spirit of nationalism and also nurture their patriotism.

He also commended the School Education department for organising Shanti Yatra to commemorate the birth anniversary of the father of the nation.
