Punjab Government releases Rs 92.95 crore to provide free uniforms to 15 lakh students: Meet Hayer

Education Minister prohibited the officials from purchasing uniforms from a particular shop

Punjab Education Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer on Thursday announced that it will distribute free uniforms to 15,491,92 government school students from Class 1 to 8 for the academic session 2022-23 as grants of 92.95 crore have been released by the education department.Divulging the details, Education Minister Meet Hayer said that DEOs and BPEOs have been directed for proper arrangement of uniform.

The Minister categorically instructed education officials to not purchase uniforms from any particular shop and have been asked to follow the safety protocol while distributing uniforms among students.Meet Hayer informed that 15,491,92 free uniforms to all girls students and boys students of SC/BC/BPL categories upto 8th Class with an budget of Rs 92.95 will be distributed by the School Management Committees (SMCs).

The Minister further said that the SMCs will purchase uniforms as per norms at the rate of Rs 600 per student.He further said that out of the total beneficiary students, Rs 50.72 crore for uniforms of 8,45,429 beneficiary girls students and Rs 32.75 crore funds for 5,45,993 SC Boys students and Rs 9.46 crore have been released for 1,57,770 BPL category Boys students.
