Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar said that there was a need to promote fine arts in Himachal Pradesh and youth should be encouraged in this direction.He was present as a Chief Guest in the Annual Prize Distribution Function of Jawaharlal Nehru Government College of Fine Arts at Chaura Maidan here, today.Expressing satisfaction over the performance of the students, the Governor said that the Fine Arts College was making an important contribution in the field of education. He said that different types of education have been developing in India for centuries, but in the matter of fine arts, particularly in Music we have given a message to the world.

“Mata Saraswati is called the goddess of music and there is no region where a music festival is not organized”, said Arlekar.He said that a lot of work was being done in the field of classical music and art in Himachal Pradesh which needs to be expanded and given a platform. He said that there was a need to encourage more young artists. He assured all possible support for the library of the college.The Governor also released the first edition of its college magazine ‘Kala Darshan’.Dr. Meena Sharma, Principal, Jawaharlal Nehru Government College of Fine Arts honoured and welcomed the Governor on the occasion and read out the Annual Report of the college.

She also detailed out various activities and achievements of the college during the last two years. She said that 157 students in different streams of fine arts were studying out of which 93 were boys and 64 were girls. She said that the new campus of the college would be coming soon.On the occasion, the students also showed their classical and instrumental performance.Director, Higher Education Dr. Amarjeet Sharma, Principal Government College Kotshera Dr. Anupama Garg, President, Parents teacher Association Ritu Sharma, Principals of various colleges besides others were also present on the occasion.
