Keeping in mind the idea of helping the street children, Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights (CCPCR) made a visit to slum area, Bhaskar colony, Sector-25, Chandigarh to know living conditions of the underprivileged children residing there. During the visit, team members of CCPCR interacted with around six families and with their children. The commission came to know that around 22 children are residing there with having no basic facilities of hygiene, water and sanitation. None of the child is going to school. During this visit, to help these children, CCPCR distributed 12 warm blankets to these underprivileged children.Mrs. Harjinder Kaur, Chairperson, CCPCR, Chandigarh highlighted that for most of us, the idea of winter means cuddling under the blanket for warmth, lying in our comfort zone and sipping coffee sitting beside the fire. But for those on the streets, with every drop in the temperatures it’s a fight for survival.

Lakhs of homeless experience bitterness of winter and are at a great risk of suffering from severe illnesses. Under such circumstances street children are the most badly affected ones. The rise in air pollution levels and the early onset of winter this year have made them more vulnerable, but at the same time it has given us an opportunity to serve humanity by donating blankets to these street children. There cannot be a bigger satisfaction than saving life of impoverished children. During this event, street children were also advised to develop personal hygiene habits. They were made aware of following COVID protocols such as washing their hands, use masks, and maintain social distance by the members of commission.Mr. Kartar Singh, Legal Consultant, CCPCR, Mr. Arvind K. Dhawan, Senior Assistant, CCPCR, Mrs. Ankita, POCSO Consultant, CCPCR and Mr. Shehkar, Clerk, CCPCR were also present during this event.
