Fulfilling the long pending demand regarding recruitment of vacant posts of District Linguistics Officers and ensuring strict implementation of State Languages Act, the Punjab Government has deputed District Linguistics Officers in 15 districts. The Higher Education and Linguistics Minister Pargat Singh distributed station allotment letters to these officers here today in his office at the Punjab Civil Secretariat.Welcoming all the newly deputed officers, Pargat Singh said that the Punjab Government is fully committed to strictly implement the State Language Act for which it was first necessary to depute District Linguistics Officers. He said that there was a backlog of the vacancies of District Linguistics Officers for the past 25 years leading to the posts of 21 such officers remaining vacant.The Minister further added that it is the Linguistics Department which has to implement the State Languages Act at the ground level for which it is all set now. He also directed the department to ensure availability of requisite staff as well as the facilities so as to enable the District Linguistics Officers to devotedly engage in their work. He also said that recently, amendments have been made in the State Language Act by the Punjab Government in order to make it more effective.

Disclosing more, Pargat Singh said that in order to fulfill the vacancies in the State Government had invited applications from the other departments for posting of officers on the deputation basis. After the scrutiny, 15 officers were appointed who were given allotted stations today.The officers on their part apprised the Minister about their experiences and the qualifications. Many of these are Ph.D, M. Phil pass and have been involved in creative works such as penning books, carrying out research and translations besides being engaged in theatre, literature and art.Among others present on the occasion included the Secretary Higher Education and Languages Krishan Kumar, DPI (Colleges) Upkar Singh and Director Linguistics Department Karamjit Kaur.From amongst the District Linguistics Officers, Tejinder Singh has been allotted Mansa, Jaspreet Kaur Kapurthala, Sukhminder Kaur Bathinda, Manjit Singh Faridkot, Ranjodh Singh Sangrur, Sandeep Sharma Ludhiana, Kanwarjit Singh Sri Muktsar Sahib, Kirpal Singh Barnala, Jagdeep Singh Ferozepur, Davinder Singh Jalandhar, Davinder Singh Boha Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, Bhupinder Kumar Sri Fatehgarh Sahib, Ajitpal Singh Moga and Amrit Setia Tarntaran.
