With 99.76 percent funds already incurred in Phase-1 and launching 2023 new development works under smart village campaign, Jalandhar district has emerged as a top  performer district in the state, said Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori. While reviewing the status of development projects under this ambitious scheme, the deputy  commissioner expressed satisfaction over the zealous performance demonstrated by the different executing agencies. He said that a whopping 99.76 percent of the total funds  received under the phase one has already been incurred by the district administration while Rs. 149 crore would be spent under the extended second phase of this scheme. Mr.  Thori further added that these funds would ensure the all round development of the rural areas as a host of projects have been commenced with these funds. The deputy  commissioner further directed the executing agencies to complete all pending or ongoing works within the stipulated time period and submit UCs for the released funds to district  administration. 

Attributing this success in the scheme to the collective efforts of the entire team of Jalandhar administration, the deputy commissioner further motivated the officers to maintain  this prodigious pace. Pointing out further, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Vishesh Sarangal said that as many as 2991 development works have been initiated  under phase-1 and 2 of this project and a sum of Rs. 192.16 crore would be incurred on both the phases. He said that while almost 100 percent works have been completed  allotted in the first phase, about 339 works under the second phase have also been finished so far. Meanwhile, the deputy commissioner also reviewed the progress made under  the Urban Environment Improvement Program (UEIP) and directed all the officials to accomplish ongoing projects in a short period besides sending UCs to administration. The  deputy commissioner stated that as many as 128 works at an outlay of Rs. 2080.32 lakh were allotted for Jalandhar city under phase-1 of which 94 works at the incurred of Rs.  1344.64 lakh have been completed and the remaining works were underway at various levels. He asked officials to start pending road construction projects as weather conditions  are now favorable for the laying of bitumen material. Similarly, 183 works costing Rs. 6736.93 lakh have been allotted under phase-2 of the UEIP of which 165 works were started  in the city adding the deputy commissioner asked the local bodies department to monitor these works regularly to ensure their timely completion.
