At least two militants were killed in a gunfight in South Kahsmir’s Anantnag today.Police in a tweet on Wednesday morning claimed that four militants got killed in Shalgul forest area of Srigufwara Anantnag. However, the tweet was later taken down from the official handle of the police.Later it was said that in the said encounter two militants have been killed.The identity of the slain militants has yet to be ascertained. Some recoveries have also been made near the gunfight site.Police said On a specific input generated by Anantnag Police regarding presence of militants in Shalgul, forest area of Srigufwara Anantnag, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by Police and 3RR in the said area.During the search operation as the presence of militants got ascertained they were given an opportunity to surrender, however, they fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party, which was retaliated leading to an encounter.
In the ensuing encounter, two unidentified militants were killed and their bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter. The identification and affiliation of the killed militants is being ascertained.In case any family claims the killed militants to be their kith or kin, they can come forward for their identification at PCR Kashmir.Arms and ammunition including 02 AK rifles and other incriminating materials were recovered from the site of encounter. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation and to probe their complicity in other crimes.In this connection police have registered a case under relevant sections of law and investigation has been initiated. People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared off of all the explosive materials, if any.(KNT)
