Development of Mohali to be on fast track: Balbir Singh Sidhu

Directs GMADA to focus on developing social infrastructure

The city of Mohali is making name for itself as the hub of IT and is growing fast which necessitates the acceleration of the pace of on-going projects with the overall development of the city put on fast track, said Health and Family Welfare Minister, Punjab and Mohali MLA Mr. Balbir Singh Sidhu while presiding over a meeting to review the important developmental projects pertaining to the city, at the District Administrative Complex.Speaking on the occasion, the Minister directed the GMADA to focus ondeveloping social infrastructure such as Old Age Homes, Nari Niketan,Home for the Destitute and the Girls Hostel, in the city. He further asked GMADA to also explore the possibility of chunk of land for Motor Market and Transport Nagar in city besides permitting the booths in the city tobe made double-storeyed which would help the booth owners to expand their business and also generate additional revenue for GMADA. The matter of construction of Hospital in Mohali was vociferously advocated. Mr. Sidhu impressed upon the Commissioner, Municipal Corporation to explore the possibility of starting city bus service apart from strengthening the fire-fighting system in the city. 

He also impressed upon the need to procure sewerage cleaning suction machines for each Municipal Committee and cleaning of city sewerage before the onset of monsoon.The District Mandi Officer was directed to initiate steps to de-notify the mandi in Phase-1 and ensure that the Phase-11 fruit and Vegetable market gets going. The Minister also insisted upon the strengthening water supply in the cityand completion/ re-carpeting of roads. He underscored the need of constructing toilets in the slum areas. For the beautification of the city, the Minister suggested GMADA to adopt the main/big parks of the city and also lay out cycle tracks along the main roads.Deputy Commissioner Girish Dayalan assured weekly review of the progress of the on-going projects followed by their time bound completion,with no room for laxity. Among those present in the meeting included the Political Secretary to the minister and Chairman Market Committee Kharar Harkesh Chand Sharma Machhli Kalan, Chief Administrator GMADA Tanu Kashyap ,Commissioner Municipal Corporation Kamal Garg, ADC Aashika Jain ,Under Trainee IAS Officer Manisha Rana and officers from various other departments of the district.
