In order to ensure availablity of quality and certified seeds to the farmers, the Agriculture and Farmers'  Welfare Department on Sunday suspended the license of one seed dealer and cancelled the license of another dealer in Shahkot over the sale of spurious and uncertified seeds.The teams led by Chief Agriculture Officer Dr Surinder Singh and others raided in Shahkot over the reports of sale of PR-128, PR 129 paddy seeds  following which the team  suspended the license of Hindustan Seed Store and cancelled the license of Mathura Dass Dina Nath firms. Dr Singh said that despite lockdown imposed by state government, the department continued its awareness drive and  sensitized the farmers of buying only quality and certified seeds.He said that earlier, the inspections were also carried out but there was not single case of spurious seeds were found.He told that the inspection drive would continue in the coming days and said that Punjab Government is committed to ensure the sale of only certified seeds to the farmers. He appealed the farmers to immediately contact the Agriculture department in case they suspect or find the sale of spurious seeds in Jalandhar.
