Two local militants were killed in a gun fight in Southern Kulgam village on Saturday morning.The gun fight between militants and combined forced including soldiers from 1  Rashtriya Rifles, 18 Battalion CRPF and Jammu Kashmir Police cordoned off Wanpora village of Kulgam after inputs about the presence of 2 militants in a local house. Police  asked militants to surrender, but they declined the offer and fired upon combined forces, leading to an exchange of fire. Militants were carrying 2 pistols and some rounds that  were recovered by Forces after the culmination of the encounter. Both the militants were killed in the encounter who according to sources were identified as Shakir Ahmed and  Parviz Ahmed. However, police officials told KNT  that the identities of the militants are being ascertained.Clashes erupt in the area after the encounter. Forces used pellets to  disperse the protesting youth, resulting in the injuries of two persons who received pellets in their eyes and were shifted to Srinagar hospital. While divulging information about  the gunfight, a police official said that during the intervening night of 29/30 May 2020, on a specific input generated by Kulgam Police, a cordon and search operation was  launched jointly by Kulgam Police, 1 RR and CRPF 18 Battalion at Wanpora Khudwani area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.During the search operation, the hiding militants  fired on the joint search party. The fire was retaliated leading to an encounter.In the ensuing encounter, two were killed and their bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter.  The identification and affiliation of the killed terrorists is being ascertained.Incriminating material including arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter. All the  recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation and to probe their complicity in other militant crimes.In this connection case FIR 30/2020 under  relevant sections of law stands registered in Police Station Qaimoh and investigation has been initiated.
