The first free bus to facilitate migrants stranded during lockdown in the city today plied from the local bus stand to Saharanpur with 30 migrants with the Punjab government led by  the Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh bearing the entire expenses of the bus. The scheme has been initiated by the state government after successfully plying around 55  trains for free travel to the migrants stranded in the city. These buses were being run free of cost by the state government to send migrants to Gautam Budh Nagar, Meerut,  Ghaziabad, Aligarh, Bulandshehar, Muzzafarnagar, Baghpat, Saharanpur, Mathura and Hapur. As soon as the migrants reached the city bus stand they were screened by the  special teams of Health department for medical check up. Only 30 passengers were allowed in one bus for a destination and the officers ensured the proper social distance  between them was maintained. Once all the passengers were medically screened, the list (three copies) was prepared by nodal officer and one copy was handed over to the bus  conductor.The Additional Municipal Corporation Commissioner Ms. Babita Kler and Assistant Commissioner Mr. Randeep Singh Gill, who were supervising the arrangement of  these buses, said that all out efforts were being made to facilitate the migrants for smooth and hassle free journey to their destination. Bot the officers said that elaborate  arrangements have been made for providing food and water to the migrants. They said that before boarding of buses by the migrants they were provided free food, water and  other essentials by the administration. They further said that elaborate arrangements have been already put in place by the district administration and more such buses would run  in the coming days too.
