Paramilitary troopers Wednesday gunned down a civilian after he allegedly didn’t stop at a barricade in Kawoosa Narbal area of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district.The incident occurred at around 10:50 hours in the morning.Sources told KNT that a Wagon-R vehicle (JK02AK-6702) was on way to Narbal from Magam area of Budgam. The vehicle was driven by one identified as Mehrajuddin Shah son of Ghulam Nabi Shah, a resident of Makhama. “We suddenly heard gunshots and saw troopers running towards a vehicle. We saw a man in a pool of blood who was shifted to hospital,” said an eyewitness. A police official said that troopers fired upon the man after he tried to jump a naka. He said that the man was stopped twice, but he didn’t stop. He sustained bullet injuries in his shoulder and later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.Spokesperson, CRPF, Pankajh Singh told KNT that the man didn’t stop at two barricades; despite asked to do so and after that troopers fired some shots. “We are trying to ascertain the facts,” he added.Medical Superintendent, SMHS Hospital, Dr Nazir Chowdary said that the man was brought dead in the hospital.
Sources said that the deceased is the nephew Police Sub Inspector Ali Muhammad Shah who is posted at Printing Press Cell of Jammu Kashmir Police at Police Control Room Srinagar. After the incident, people at Khalisa Kawosa tried to stage a protest; however, their attempt was foiled by police.However, massive clashes erupt in the native village of the deceased when the news about Mehrajuddin broke. Witnesses said that Forces used tear-smoke shells to disperse the protesting people. Eyewitnesses told KNT that a 21 girl identified as Shaista Jan daughter of Abdul Hameed Malla of Kawoosa was shifted to SMHS Hospital after she sustained pellet injuries in her eye. In wake of the killing and subsequent clashes, authorities suspended mobile internet in the district.Meanwhile, District Development Commissioner Tariq Hussain Ganai said that an FIR into the killing has been lodged and inquiry will be conducted in this regard.This is the 3rd civilian killing since May 4. A civilian Hamzah Shafi Bhat of Khaipora Handwara got killed in Wangam Qaziabad Handwara on May 4 while another civilian Jahangir Ahmed of Hathmula Pulwama lost his life during clashes that erupt after the killing of Hizb Commander Reyaz Naikoo.
