Two more ‘Shramik Express’ trains with 2400 migrants today chugged off for Gaya (Bihar) and Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh) from the city with the state government led by Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh spending Rs 7.26 lakh and Rs 6.24 lakh respectively on these trains to ensure free travel for migrants. The 22nd ‘Sharmik Express’ train for Gaya today chugged at 8 am and the 23rd one for Gorakhpur left at 10 am under the supervision of the Deputy Commissioner of Police Mr. Balkar Singh and Sub Divisional Magistrate Mr. Rahul Sindhu. The Captain government has spent Rs 13.50 lakh on these trains to facilitate the migrants for their safe journey. The Deputy Commissioner of Police and Sub Divisional Magistrate said that only those migrants who have registered them on government portal were being facilitated for the movement towards their respective destinations. As a part of this noble initiative, the migrants who were scheduled to board the train were transported free of cost from transit points set up by the district administration via buses of the Punjab roadways to the city Railway station. The district administration led by Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Mr. Varinder Kumar Sharma, Commissioner of Police Mr. Gurpreet Singh Bhullar and Senior Superintendent of Police has already made elaborate arrangements for the smooth boarding of the migrants for the train. Meanwhile, before boarding the train at the city Railway station the migrants were thoroughly screened by a team of the Health department. The migrants were boarded into the train while maintaining social distance and were offered food, water and other necessities by the volunteers of the district administration. Pertinently, this was a noble initiative taken by the state government to ensure that migrants, who aspire to visit their native states, could go back easily without any sort of inconvenience to them.
