Condemning the actions of the state government over the imposition of continuous curfew and strict restrictions on the movement of people in most parts of Srinagar, Hurriyat Conference (M) Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who continues to be under house arrest, flayed the Govt over restrictions laid on historic Jamia Masjid and other religious places to stop people from offering the Friday Congregational prayers.According to a statement issued while terming the imposition of strict curfew as political vendetta, Mirwaiz stated that the people were kept bereft of basic amenities and were subjected to immense sufferings due to the authoritarian acts of the state government. He said that the people of Kashmir have expressed their political aspiration by observing strike and protesting on their own against the bloodshed, wanton suppression, violations of human rights and staged polls. He said this act of people should serve as an eye opener for the State govt as well as the Government of India. Mirwaiz said that the people are feeling extremely insecure in this situation where they have been left at the mercy of trigger happy forces, who can go on a killing spree whenever and wherever they want. Mirwaiz said hence in such a situation where the basic right to life is under threat, the so called “Democratic Process” of elections is nothing but a farce.
Hurriyat (M) Chairman said that pro-Indian parties instead of shedding crocodile tears over the cold blooded murder of Bashir Ahmad Bhat should act to bring the perpetrators of his death to justice. Mirwaiz prayed for the speedy recovery of Suhail Ahmad Kinu of Mahraj Gunj who was critically injured during the unprovoked firing of the forces. Expressing serious concern over subjecting of senior Hurriyat leader Hilal Ahmad war to intimidation and humiliation by the police in detention, APHC Chairman strongly condemned this action. While welcoming the recent statement of Pakistan Army Chief Raheel Sharief wherein he has stated that resolution of Kashmir issue in accordance with the wishes of the people of Kashmir was imperative for peace and stability in region, Mirwaiz said the statement was based on historical reality. He said that Pakistan being an important stake holder to Kashmir issue, has always supported and advocated the right to self determination for the people of Jammu & Kashmir.
He said that instead of making historically incorrect statements Govt. of India should accept the basic right of the Kashmiri people to decide their political future.Meanwhile Hurriyat spokesman has strongly condemned the continuous house arrest of Hurriyat (M) Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Senior leaders Agha Syed Hassan Al Moosvi Al Safvi, and arrest of Mukhtar Ahmad Waza, Zaffar Akbar Bhat, Engineer Hilal Ahmad War, Hakim Abdul Rashid, Mushtaq Ahmad Sofi, Syed Bashir Andrabi, Jameel Ahmad War, Khazir Mohammad Wani, Sheikh Ghulam Mohammad, Sajad Noorabadi, and Roman Dar in different police stations.
