Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Varinder Kumar Sharma, Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar and Senior Superintendent of Police Navjot Singh Mahal asked the stockiest and retailers of the essential commodities to ensure regular and uninterrupted supply of these goods to the people during the lockdown.Chairing a meeting here at the District Administrative Complex, the Deputy Commissioner, Commissioner of Police and Senior Superintendent of Police said that as per the provisions in the Essential Commodities Act 1955 five item groups viz. Food Grains (Rice, Wheat and Floor), Pulses (Gram, Tur, Urad, Moong and Masur), Edible Oil (Groundnut, Mustard, Vanaspati, Soya, Sunflower and Palm oil), Vegetables including Potato, Onion and Tomato besides other grocery items Sugar, Jaggery, Milk, Tea, Salt and others. They said that the administration was duty-bound to ensure the supply of these essential items besides others to the people. The officers asked the stockiest and retailers to ensure that no exorbitant prices were charged from the people.The Deputy Commissioner, Commissioner of Police and Senior Superintendent of Police any type of hording or profiteering in this hour of crisis would be dealt with sternly. They said that the teams of Food and Civil Supplies department were already keeping a strict vigil over stocks and sales of the shopkeepers and any sort of malpractice would not be tolerated at any cost. The officers said that severest of severe action would be taken against those people who resort to such illegal activities.The Deputy Commissioner, Commissioner of Police and Senior Superintendent of Police assured the shopkeepers that none of their vehicles carrying the supply of these essential commodities would be stopped by the authorities. They also assured fulsome support and cooperation to the shopkeepers in this cause.On the occasion District Food and Civil Supplies Controller Mr. Narinder Singh and others were also present.
