Acknowledging their stupendous contribution towards upliftment of society, Rotary Club Mohali led by president Harjeet Singh in association with PCA, Mohali Ladies club  on Sunday honored 22 women change leaders of the region here on Women's Day.The select group of women chosen for the awards following a rigorous process have done inspiring work in the diverse fields ranging from education, environment preservation through solid waste management, besides effective resolution of domestic violence cases environment and rehabilitation of drug abuse victims.Rotary Mohali has always been at the forefront of providing platform to real life social innovators to set an example for others to emulate, Club President Harjeet Singh said while disclosing the rationale behind the coveted Awards which have attained certain halo of eminence and respect in the northern region.In line with Rotary Club Mohali's vision to solidify social revolution through identification and nurturing of community leaders, the event was part of several path-breaking endeavours undertaken by the club since the beginning of 2020 under the leadership of Harjeet Singh.Immediately upon taking over in January earlier this year, the 49-year-old Harjeet, a Chartered Accountant by profession, had amongst other projects, had overseen  implementation of hugely successful  'Angadwadi Project' positively impacting hundreds of kids across 11 centres of district Mohali. The Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh had also honoured Rotary Club , Mohali  for their services on this year's Republic Day.Handing over the Awards here during an impressive ceremony, ADC Mohali Aashika Jain lauded the resilience of these exceptional women to infuse much needed sense of positivity and resilience amongst those disadvantaged or less privileged. 

To restore someone's self-confidence and dignity is most challenging, said Aashika Jain noting with great appreciation the contribution in providing succour to those afflicted with drug abuse.Lauding the Rotary Club Mohali for facilitating the change, she expressed confidence that this would certainly go a long way in inspiring others to come forward and do their bit for society.Earlier, Interacting with the winners, Guest of Honour and famous TV personality Savita Bhatti said women as leaders have proved themselves in all spheres around the globe and time had come for them to propel themselves even further. World cannot progress by leaving half of its population behind and we as women are more than capable of bringing the change world needs be it in any field, Bhatti added.Notably, The Rotary Club is also working out modalities to adopt 25 school dropouts, who would be receiving GDA training by the Mahindra Institute of Skill Development, with all the expenses borne by the Club besides introducing  a course for plumbers and electricians at the Rotary Vocational Training Centre, apart from the stitching, embroidery and beauty courses that are already operational.The Club is also working closely with the District Health Department, assisting them in the execution of the Anaemia Mukt Punjab campaign. The Club has also adopted 13 Anganwadi centres in underdeveloped regions, and is providing them with elementary level educational books, toys and basic necessities like chairs, utensils, facilities for fresh water, etc.Donating a commercial refrigerator to cater to the needs of around 120 students staying at a shelter home, providing for the tuition fees of economically backward school students, installing pairs of colour-coded dustbins in schools, conducting tree plantation drives, installing fans and tube lights in several schools include the long list of other commendable projects of public service undertaken in the recent past only, Singh added.
