Handicraft department organises awareness camp for artisans in Shopian

An awareness camp was today organized by  Handicrafts Department, Shopian to generate awareness among local artisans and general public about the scope of Handicrafts  Sector in global market.On the occasion, Additional Deputy Commissioner Shopian, Dr Abdul Aziz who was chief guest on the occasion highlighted the benefits and easy  accessible of different schemes run by the department. He said people can set up cooperative societies after learning the crafts and reap the benefits of these schemes. “The  main objective of organizing the camp is to generate awareness among women stakeholders particularly about various schemes of handicraft department,” he added.Among  others the camp was attended by Lead Bank Manager, Block Development Officer, District Coordinator EDI, Director RSETI, and other concerned officials.Meanwhile, the artisans  present at the awareness camp were counseled to take handicrafts as source of livelihood and get themselves registered as artisans.On the Occasion, Assistant Director  Handicrafts, Bashir Ahmad encouraged the people to enroll in craft training programmes of the department, which will in turn generate employment opportunities.On the occasion  75 Registration cards were distributed among the artisan trainees.
