"Action would be taken soon to cut down dry trees along the roads across Punjab so that the people could be protected from possible accidents due to falling of trees."This was disclosed by Mr. Sadhu Singh Dharmsot after a meeting with the senior officers of the forest department. He further said that selling timber from the felled trees at market price would benefit the state exchequer.He further elaborated that the forest land under illegal occupation in the State has been freed in large measure. He further said that action should be expedited to free those land or areas which are still under illegal occupation.Mr. Dharmsot said that officers were directed to consider the option of using the wood of the felled trees for obtaining orders pertaining to making benches for school children to sit on. This would augument the income of the forest department.Mr. Dharmsot instructed the authorities to take steps towards adopting online monitoring system on the lines of the Rajasthan government and said that adopting this modern system was a necessity of the hour. He said that illegal activities like protection of forests from illegal occupation, deforestation and wildlife hunting can be prevented with this initiative.M. Dharmsot further said that under the various schemes, the saplings that are being planted in the state should be well maintenaned so that the objective of the purity of the environment can be attained. He also asked for a proposal for cement tree guards to protect the saplings.The meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary, Forest Mrs. Ravneet Kaur, Principal Chief Conservator Mr. Jatinder Sharma, Principal Chief Conservator (Wildlife) Mr. Kuldeep Kumar and MD of Punjab State Forest Corporation Mr. Harinder Singh Grewal.
