Two militants affiliated with Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) were killed in an encounter that raged between forces and militants in Sangam, area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Friday night, Jammu and Kashmir police chief Dilbag Singh said on Saturday.According to wire service—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the encounter took place after the police and forces jointly launched Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in Sangam area following the specific inputs about the presence of militants.Soon after the suspected spot was zeroed-in, the hiding militants fired upon the search party, which was retaliated, thus triggering an encounter, officials said, adding that two militants were killed in the gunfight.Addressing a presser here at Humhama on Srinagar outskirts, Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh said that two militants affiliated with LeT were killed in an encounter which was the part of ongoing anti-militancy operations being carried out to stabilize peace and law and order situation in Jammu and Kashmir.DGP was flanked by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Zone, Vijay Kumar. “The successful operation launched by Anantnag police, Army and CAPF jointly yesterday led to the killing of two LeT militants identified as Naveed Ahmad Bhat alias Furqan and Aaqib Yasin Bhat, both residents of Qaimoh Kulgam,” he said.He added that Naveed was active as LeT militant from 2018 while Aaqib had joined militancy in June 2019. “Naveed was involved in many cases including the attacks on security forces and civilians. AT least seven FIRs are registered against him,” DGP while sharing the details said, adding that Aaqib was involved in many militancy related cases and one FIR has been registered against him.
Meanwhile, the DGP said that one person from Handwara area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district was arrested for misusing the social media platform bys uploading the content that can instigate violence. He identified the arrested person as Waseem Ahmad Dar from Handwara, saying that action against him is being taken.He also complimented the Kashmir police for their good behavior with the public and asked the cops to continue with the zeal.Replying to a twitter comment against the police officer, the IGP said that one person who was using the account on the name of Hafiz Suhail has been identified, adding that his name is Suhail Wali, son of Wali Muhammad of Dalipora Pulwama, who according to his family is in abroad. “We will register a case against him and action will be initiated,” he said.About the searches being conducted by National Investigation Agency (NIA) in the case of suspended Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Davinder Singh, the DGP said that searches and raids might are being conducted to get the further details and clues in the case.About the restoration of high speed internet services in Jammu and Kashmir, the DGP said that it was the time to digest 2G mobile data services, rest will be seen later.Responding to the query, the DGP said that the incident that took place in Srinagar in which some journalists were thrashed was quite regrettable, adding that “the police men involved in the act were called and were reprimanded. I couldn’t get the fresh details about the case.” (KNO)
