Safe School Vahan Special Drive: 98 School vehicles checked, 34 issued challans and four impounded in Moga

Tightening the noose around the school buses for not complying with the requisite parameters of the Safe School Vahan scheme, the district administration under its special drive has checked at least 98 school vehicles, issued challans to 34 while impounded four of them in the district in last two days.Divulging the details, the Deputy Commissioner Moga Sandeep Hans said that on the directions of the Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh the district administration has begun a special drive to nail the vehicles violating the road safety norms for ensuring safety and security of the school children.As per the information, a total of 18 school vehicles were checked in Moga sub-division of which 10 issued challans while one was impounded. Similarly, in Baghapurana 23 school vehicles were checked of which 13 were challaned and two were impounded and in Dharamkot, 29 vehicles were checked of which 11 vehicles were challaned. Likewise, in Nihal Singh Wala, 28 such school vehicles were checked of which one was impounded for flouting safety norms.

What Safe School Vahan Scheme Says:

The bus must be equipped with closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras

Speed-governors must be installed in the buses

A woman attendant must

The body of the bus should be yellow with a horizontal stripe in brown

Words 'School Bus' must be written on the back and front of the bus

Provision of the emergency door, a first-aid box, fire extinguisher in the bus

School name and phone number must be written on the bus

The driver should have five years of experience and should not have been challaned more than twice for traffic offences
