173 school vehicles checked in Sangrur, 40 impounded, 46 challaned

Following the instructions of Chief Minister Punjab, an intensive checking drive of school vans is being carried out in district Sangrur as 173 school buses were checked on second day. Deputy Commissioner Sangrur Mr. Ghanshyam Thori said that all the SDMs have been directed to crack down heavily on the illegal school vehicles plying on the roads. He added that out of total 173 vehicles, besides challaning 46 vehicles, 40 have also been impounded. DC informed that yesterday, 35 schools vehicles were checked out of which 15 were impounded and 5 were challaned.Mr. Ghanshyam Thori said that the teams comprising SDM, police officials and Regional Transport Authority (RTA) were regularly conducting checking in their respective subdivisions. He added that the school managements have already been sensitised about the directions of Safe School Vahan Policy and urged to comply with the rules and regulations. DC added that to ensure the safety of school going children, the checking teams have been directed to take strict legal action against the violators.Deputy Commissioner informed that secretary RTA checked 25 school vans and challaned 3 buses apart from impounding 3 vehicles. He added that in Sangrur subdivision, 20 vehicles checked out of which 9 challaned and 1 impounded and similarly in Sunam 10 vehicles checked out of which 3 challaned. He said that SDM Lehra checks 14 school vehicles out of which 4 challlaned and 2 impounded and at Moonak 2 challaned issued to violators after checking of 11 vehicles. Meanwhile, 10 buses were checked at Malerkotla out of which 3 challaned, 24 at Dirba; 11 challaned and 1 impounded, 22 vehicles at Ahmedgarh out of which 10 impounded and 1 challaned and 17 at Bhawanigarh, out of which 10 vehicles were impounded.DC also appealed the district residents to lodge their complaints regarding school buses by dialing district administration's helpline number 01672-232304.
