Former Cabinet Minister Mr Avtar Henry laid the foundation stone of ambitious Stormwater drainage project worth Rs 5.12 Crore in Sodal Chowk on Wednesday.The project will solve the chronic and decades’ old issue of waterlogging in Sodal, Preet Nagar, Doaba Chowk and adjoining areas falling in the Jalandhar North Constituency.Speaking after laying the foundation stone, Mr Henry said that the whole project includes 2.50 km sewer line (sewage pipes ranging from 12-inch to 40 -inch), a pumping station and rising main from the industrial area to Bhagat Singh Colony and will carry water from Doaba Chowk up to Kala Sanghian drain.He said that the tenders have been given to Ludhiana based firm which will complete the project in one year.He told the once completed; the project will benefit the residents of Sodal Nagar, Preet Nagar, Industrial Area, Chandan Nagar, Doaba Chowk and adjoining areas.Under the visionary and dynamic leadership of Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, Former Minister said a major thrust was being laid to solve the problem of waterlogging in the entire cit. Mr Henry said that the project will provide a permanent solution of the water logging problem in these areas and all-out efforts would be made to ensure that project gets completed within time and no water logging takes place by next year.Reiterating the firm commitment of the state government to ensure holistic development, he said that every promise made to people would be fulfilled by State Government.
