The Chairman of Punjab Safai Karamchari Commission Gejja Ram Valmiki on Friday said that the Commission is working with a mission to ensure the upliftment of Safai Karamchari across the state and it would not allow any kind of exploitation of them.Presiding over a meeting with the various Safai Karamcharis-Sewermen unions and Deputy Commissioner Mr Varinder Kumar Sharma, Commissioner of Police Mr Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, Senior Superintendent of Police Mr Navjot Singh Mahal, Municipal Corporation Commissioner Mr Diparva Lakra, ADC (G) Mr Jasbir Singh, the Chairman Mr Gejja Ram Valmiki accompanied by vice-chairman Mr Ram Singh, member Mr Inderjeet Singh, Advisor Mr Rahul Adia, said that the sole aim of the commission is to ensure welfare of Safai Karamcharis, working in different government departments of the state government.He discussed several issues related to the compensation for Safai Karamcharis/sewermen, vacant posts of Safai Karamcharis/sewermen in various government departments, delayed EPF, equal work-equal pay or wages as per DC rate and others so that the commission can redress the issues immediately. He also sought information related to funds spent on advertisement, functions and publicity under Swachh Bharat Mission from Municipal Corporation and Councils.
He demanded that the Union government should also provide funds under Swachh Bharat Mission that can be spent on the welfare of Safai Karamcharis. He said that no stone would be left unturned to ensure the well being of the Safai Sewaks in the state.The Chairman said assured the Safai Karamcharis and their representatives that all posts lying vacant in government departments would be filled on a priority basis.Chairman Mr Gejja Ram Valmiki also directed the Kartarpur Municipal Council to hand over a job appointment letter to the widow of the Safai Sewak immediately after she met the chairman in the meeting.He further asked the council to scrap the contact of contactor immediately after some members complained about delayed EPF.Further, he also directed the officials to ensure there must not be any Mohalla Sanitation Committee anywhere.Prominent amongst present in the meeting included Deputy Director Local Government Mrs Anupam Kaler, Joint MC Commissioner Mr Harcharan Singh, Assistant Commissioners Mr Warjeet Walia, Mrs Shayri Malhotra, Superintendent of Police (H) Mr Ravinderpal Singh Sandhu, DEOs Mr Harinderpal Singh, Mr Ram Pal, District Welfare Officer Mr Rajinder Singh, Mr Amrit Khosla, Mr Chandan Grewal, Mr Pawan Baba and others.
