Commissioner Secretary, Labour and Employment Department Saurabh Bhagat today chaired a special preparatory meeting for involvement of Directorate of Employment in ensuing investment summit.The Employment Department is endeavouring to provide a platform for job placement of prospective employees within the Union Territory of J&K, within India and abroad.Director Employment, who is also ex-officio Managing Director, Overseas Employment Corporation of J&K, was asked to review its role as an agency to empanel prospective recruiters for eligible youth of J&K in various overseas countries, especially Gulf and Middle East.Recently the Department has also conducted special surveys on post graduate unemployed youth of J&K, which shall be utilized for getting suitable placements with various prestigious employers in the future, the meeting was told.Commissioner/Secretary emphasized the need for registration of every unemployed youth with the District Employment and Counselling Centres, so that they are not left out of job opportunities during the ensuing initiative.The Commissioner/Secretary, while reviewing the Self Help Group of Engineers Scheme, visualized the need of changing the whole structure of the scheme in order to make it more effective and friendly among the unemployed engineers and the line departments.
The Director Employment was directed to write to executive agencies to duly cooperate with the Self Help Group of Engineers, under the ambit of the scheme.It was also decided that Assistant Directors shall pro-actively participate in identification of beneficiaries for various Self-employment schemes implemented by J&K EDI and Women’s Development Corporation, during their (beneficiaries) trainings and till the follow up of the projects. They shall also conduct inspections and a detailed verification of the projects sponsored during the last decade.In view of growing unemployment, Commissioner/Secretary, while lauding the role of Employment Department in counselling the students of the J&K, emphasized that the career counselling and guidance shall be organized in coordination with the Education Department, so that more efficiency is brought into the subject. Baghat also instructed the department to involve the college counselling cells and other counselling experts in the career counselling process.He also took stock of the expenditure made by the Employment Department and stressed upon officers to make expenditure as early as possible so that no funds are lapsed.The meeting was attended by the Director Employment, J&K, Yash Paul Suman; Joint Director Employment, Jammu, Jyoti Rani Salathia; Joint Director Employment, Kashmir, Shahid Mehmood; Deputy Director Planning, Mohammad Akbar; Assistant Director Employment Central, Mohammad Rafeeq Bhat.Meanwhile, Secretary also visited the Department of Nuclear Medicine, Auquaf Market, which is duly funded by the Employment Department through EDI under Seed Capital Fund Scheme. He also paid visit to Women’s Development Corporation, Jammu.
